That long history means I have tested countless social media tools, but the launch of Buffer Insights feels different. It is a comprehensive analytics suite that tracks follower growth, engagement, and impressions across every major platform, from Instagram and LinkedIn to TikTok and Bluesky. It also allows you to compare performance across date ranges and export reports in various formats, which is a game changer for anyone serious about data.

Planning with AI and the Claude Connector

My month usually starts with a blank page and a lot of caffeine. I do not use AI to write my posts, but I absolutely use it to plan them. Because Buffer has an MCP that connects to Claude, ChatGPT, and others, I can pull my social data directly into a conversation. This lets me ask specific questions about what has worked in the past without manually digging through spreadsheets.

I typically ask Claude to plan a month’s worth of content for my LinkedIn and Threads profiles based on my Buffer data from the past year. It analyzes what resonated most and suggests a rough plan for the weeks ahead. This workflow has become my standard operating procedure and saves me hours every single week. It also significantly reduces the mental load of constantly wondering what to post next.

Tracking Momentum with the Weekly Pulse

Even though I like to plan big picture, social media moves lightning fast. I need to keep track of how things are going in real time and make adjustments on the fly. The Weekly Pulse is perfect for this because it shows me exactly where I stand for the week. It displays how many posts I have shared, how my follower growth is tracking, and how much engagement I am getting.

I am currently working hard on improving my comment score because replying to comments is a great way to boost visibility. Having this data front and center helps me stay accountable. It is like a fitness tracker for my social accounts, gently nudging me to do better.

Measuring Launch Success with Tags

There are many ways to use Tags in Buffer, but I primarily use them to capture results for product launches. The setup is simple: add a tag to each post when you schedule it, then filter by that tag in Insights. This lets you see how those specific posts performed as a group. For example, we recently launched support for Substack Notes, and I tagged every launch post to see the results in one place.

The results were impressive. Those six posts on launch day drew 254 engagements and 17,000 impressions. Because each launch gets its own tag, I can also compare different launches against one another. This is incredibly handy when you are trying to work out which metrics actually matter for your brand.

The Importance of Reporting

If a tree falls in a forest but no one hears it, did it really fall? I feel the same way about social content. If you do not communicate the results to a client or a teammate, you might as well not have posted at all. Buffer’s reporting features are not just for agencies; I use them constantly to show our product and leadership team how our campaigns are performing.

There are several export options, including CSV and PDF, but I use PNG snapshots most often. They are the fastest and simplest way to highlight a win in Slack. It turns raw data into a shareable story that everyone can understand at a glance.

Bringing It All Together

Each of these features covers a different part of my month. I start by planning with the Claude connector, check the Weekly Pulse as I go, use tags for specific launches, and share the results through reports. Buffer Insights is available on every plan, including the free one, so there is no excuse not to start digging into your data. As social platforms continue to evolve, having a centralized hub for analytics will likely become less of a luxury and more of a necessity for survival.

I have been using Buffer as a marketer for over a decade, long before I ever joined the company.
